CCC Webinar: Nurse-Driven Early Progressive Mobility for Acute Cardiovascular Disease
Bedrest following a heart attack or during hospitalization for heart failure is an ingrained part of acute care cardiology culture. However, bedrest is associated with muscle loss and decreased functional abilities, which can lead to delayed recovery and disability following hospitalization. Early mobilization is safe and is associated with increased muscle strength and improved post-hospital physical and cognitive outcomes. However, early mobilization programs are currently underused, particularly in acute cardiac care units. Bedside nurses may have the opportunity and ability to increase mobilization of their patients, however, there are a number of barriers to doing so.
This objectives of this webinar are to:
- Improve knowledge of the benefits of early mobilization in acute cardiac patients
- Introduce a nurse-driven early mobility program
- Learn how to overcome known nursing-related barriers to early mobilization
- Provide the tools to implement a nurse-driven early mobility program in your cardiac care unit.
