Professional Education
Overview
The purpose of the CCCN Professional Education Committee is to foster professional education in cardiovascular nursing.
Professional Education efforts are undertaken both at the National and Provincial level within CCCN.
National:
The National Professional Education Committee is a standing committee chartered by CCCN's bylaws. It consists of a national chairperson who is appointed by the board for a 2 year term and provincial/territorial professional education representatives from each provincial Chapter.
The national chairperson chairs the annual meeting of the provincial/territorial representatives once yearly during the CCCN annual conference held in conjunction with the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress. Invited guests and representatives from the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) may also participate at the Prof Education meeting.
Issues at the national level currently include review and update of our cardiovascular nursing standards, certification and developing web-based learning opportunities for our membership.
Provincial
Provincial initiatives promote multidisciplinary education sessions and workshops on a variety of topics including clinical issues and technology, health promotion and risk factor modification, and preparing for certification to name a few. These events are tailored to reflect evidenced based practice, research initiatives, the promotion of continuing competence and member request. Relationships with industry are also cultivated to support educational activities at both the provincial and national levels.
