About CCCN
History
Formation
CCCN was established through the initiative of a cardiovascular nurses' advocate, Mr. Bob MacDonald at the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, (HSFC) then known as the Canadian Heart Foundation. It was determined that the Council should be an integral part of the Foundation. Accordingly, the Foundation amended its bylaws to allow for the establishment of the Councils of the Foundation and the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses. In 1973 at Halifax CCCN officially came into being and operated within a framework of regulations and terms of reference agreed to by the Foundation.
In 1986, the HSFC Senkow Report for the restructure of HSFC Board of Directors advised CCCN to work towards independence. At the Annual General Meeting in Vancouver, in 1993 the first set of independent bylaws was approved by the Members. Effective July 1994, CCCN was incorporated as a non-profit, non-share Corporation by the Ministry of Industry and Science. The Council remains a sister organization to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

1993 - Standards for Cardiovascular Health Education are authored by CCCN
1994 - Incorporation of CCCN
2000 - Standards for Cardiovascular Nursing are revised by CCCN
2001- First Certification Exam in Cardiovascular offered by CNA
2008 - Modification of the French name of the CCCN to Conseil canadien des infirmieres et infirmiers en soins cardiovasculaires. - Awards program revised by CCCN - Celebrated CCCN’s 35th Anniversary created a banner in recognition of 35th Anniversary, include PPT prepared by Marlene Adam shown at AGM
