We hope you will able to attend the CCCN Pre-Conference Workshops, Sunday morning (Oct 26), 9am-12pm at the Hilton Hotel. They are open to all CCC delegates, but you are asked to kindly RSVP to  tdouris@cccn.ca  to have your name added to the attendance list for the workshop of your choice. 

(Please note that all three sessions run concurrently, so attendance at more than one is not possible).

Workshop 1: Behavioural Change: Making a difference in CVD risk factors!          

Part 1: Smoking Cessation: How every nurse can make a difference, Debbie Aitken  

Learning objectives  After the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Effectively implement evidence-based strategies for withdrawal prevention and smoking cessation
• Gain further awareness of cessation programs and resources designed specifically for nurses
• Identify and compare pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to smoking cessation

Part 2: Three (3) Minute Empowerment,  Dr. Denis Chauret

Learning objectives After the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Engage in effective partnerships with their patients to support positive behavior changes
• Perform rapid assessments of their patients' readiness for change
• Help patients to increase motivation and overcome barriers to change
• Use practical and efficient strategies, given the significant time constraints of clinical practice

• The scope, pathophysiology and management issues related to acute coronary syndromes including angina, STEMI, NSTEMI and outcomes.
• How to conduct a thorough chest pain evaluation: differentiating cardiac from non-cardiac pain and nursing related interventions.
• The risk factors associated with ACS and a guidelines based approach for their optimization.
• The psychosocial considerations for patients with ACS.
• Guiding principles for patient and family education.
