

DENISE NEWTON-MATHUR, RN, BA, MA
Denise Newton-Mathur is a Lecturer in the School of Nursing at Laurentian University, Sudbury, Ontario. Denise’s teaching experience is related to first year nursing students nursing practice courses and clinical placements in Long Term Care, as well as third and fourth year professional development courses regarding Nursing Leadership and Empowerment.
As an Odawa-Ojibwe Metis, Denise’s academic research interests pertain to Aboriginal peoples’ health issues, especially diabetes, heart disease and women’s health.
Denise will begin her Interdisciplinary PhD in Human Studies at Laurentian University in September 2008, and her thesis topic is related to First Nations treaties and their effects on Aboriginal peoples’ health and well being.
