Clinical Excellence Award

Cathy Ray

CATHY RAY, RN

Letter of Nomination

I am writing in support of nominating Cathy Ray for a Clinical Cardiovascular Nursing Excellence Award for outstanding clinical practice with direct client contact. Cathy is a staff nurse in our busy cardiac catheterization lab. Some time ago, the need for consistent trainer for new staff became very apparent. Training cath lab staff is a time consuming, demanding task. Without being asked, Cathy stepped up to the plate and started to do double duty as a staff nurse and trainer. One of these jobs is difficult; both together require a dedicated and talented nurse.

Cathy maintains a high standard of clinical practice, both as a staff nurse and trainer. I have often heard from those she has trained, she maintains these standards throughout. Cathy has strong interpersonal and collaborative skills which she demonstrates daily by working in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team that forms interventional cardiology here at the Royal Columbian Hospital. She manages to maintain her warmth and compassionate manner dealing with both staff and clients.

Cathy is an active member of the Interventional Cardiology Professional Practice Council, participating in council meetings, and shared work teams. With her input, we have been able to make significant changes that impact not only our clients, but the staff as well.

Cathy has done all this without being asked. She is a positive role model for both new and experienced staff alike. Her commitment to our cardiovascular patients is apparent in her daily life. I am pleased to nominate her for this award.

Sincerely,

Jackie Murray, RN, BSN
