Baxter Leadership Award

Carol Laberge

CAROL LABERGE, RN, BSN, MALT (candidate)

Letter of Nomination

I am writing in support of nominating Carol Laberge for the Baxter Leadership Award in the category of leadership excellence. Carol has been the Health Services Manager for Cardiac Services-Cardiology Program for the Fraser Health Authority (Fraser North) since March 2004, and prior to that time held various coordinator and clinical roles. During the time I have known Carol, I have consistently witnessed her skills in leadership, including systems thinking and planning, organizational change management, creativity, and communication.

Carol is a very dedicated and energetic professional. She maintains high standards for herself and the team built on ethical principles and character. She is quick to understand situations and identifies appropriate solutions. Over the past year, Carol has been a key leader in expanding the cardiac cath lab facilities in Fraser Health and the ECHO program in Fraser North. Carol has provided leadership to the clinical team including the integration of new roles within existing teams. Carol has been instrumental in creating a vision for cardiology care and has used a variety of approaches and resources to help the interdisciplinary team members review and redesign their existing practices.

In particular, Carol has been instrumental in leading the redesign of the Coronary Care Unit at Royal Columbian hospital to facilitate same day discharge and transfer of primary coronary intervention patients. Additionally, she led the implementation of the Admitted Coronary Intervention Unit which specializes in rapid turnover of the cardiovascular patient. Additionally, Carol has been instrumental in developing the Acute Myocardial Infarction Program within Fraser Health treating over five hundred acute patients per year with unprecedented success in outcomes.

It is my opinion that Carol should be recognized in Leadership Excellence.

Sincerely,

Jackie Murray, RN, BSN
