Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions

The 2011 CCCN Annual General Meeting and Scientific Sessions was held in Vancouver, October 22 to 25, 2011 as part of the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress (CCC), the premier annual cardiovascular event in Canada. There were approximately 600 CCCN members in attendance. CCCN sessions showcased a wide range of outstanding clinical and research work in the CV nursing field.
We had the following plenary speakers:
- Martha Mackay, PhD, RN, CCN(C) who spoke on "Assumptions about ischemic heart disease: Are we really all the same?" For a detailed bio, please click here.
- Barbara L. Mildon, RN, PhD, CHE, CCHNC(C) who spoke on "Health Pormotion for Nurses: From Research to RecommendationsWhy is the Canadian Nurses Association advocating improving the workplace for nurses? What factors contribute to nurse fatigue?". For a detailed bio, please click here.
In addition to the plenary speakers, there were three pre-congress workshops on the following topics:
- Workshop 1 - Putting the "self" back in to self-care: Management tips for successful Heart Failure
- Part 1 Understanding Self-care in Patients with Heart Failure
- Part 2 Managing Heart Failure in the Elderly and Heart Failure Transition of Care

CCCN held a closing plenary session consisting of a Panel Presentation that discussed the topic “Cardiac Disease - When the nurse becomes the patient!”
